Toilet Repairs Done Properly — and Replacements Done Cleanly

A constantly running cistern wastes up to 400 litres a day — enough to fill four baths — and adds noticeably to a metered water bill. It's almost always caused by a worn flush valve, a stuck float, or a perished diaphragm in the inlet valve. None of these need a new toilet; they need 20 minutes of proper repair.

Full toilet replacement is a tidier job than most people expect when done properly. We protect the floor, cap and isolate the supply, remove the old WC cleanly, fit the new pan and cistern with fresh seals and bolts, and test under flush conditions before leaving. No leaks, no rocking pans, no silicone smears.

Toilet Problems Worth Acting On Quickly

Toilet faults rarely get better on their own. A small leak around the pan seal can rot the floor below within months; a faulty flush valve doubles your water bill silently; a hairline crack in the cistern can fail suddenly and flood the bathroom.

    • A running toilet can waste 200-400 litres of water every day
    • Leaks around the base of the pan usually mean a failed wax seal or soil pipe gasket
    • Weak flush is most often a part-failed flush valve, not a blocked pan
    • Loose, rocking pans damage the soil connection and eventually leak
    • Cracks in cisterns or pans are not safely repairable — replacement is the only fix

    Our Process

    1

    Diagnose

We identify whether it's the inlet valve, flush valve, float, seal or pan that's causing the problem — and quote both repair and replace options.

    2

    Protect

Floor covered with protective sheet, working area cleared, water supply isolated and the WC drained.

    3

    Repair or Replace

Faulty parts swapped for like-for-like or upgraded equivalents. Full replacement includes new wax seal, fixing kit and pan connector.

    4

    Test

Multiple flushes tested under working pressure. Pan checked for movement, base checked for leaks, valves checked for shut-off.

    5

    Tidy

Old WC and all packaging removed. Floor wiped down. Operation demonstrated before we leave.

    Why Choose Conroy

    All Faults Diagnosed

Running cisterns, weak flush, leaks, smells, blockages — accurate diagnosis before any work or spending.

    Repair First

We fix what's fixable. A £20 valve usually beats a £200 new toilet, and we'll always quote both.

    Full Replacement Service

Old WC removed, new WC supplied and fitted with fresh seals and bolts — no rocking, no leaks, no silicone smears.

    Clean Workspace

Floor protected throughout. Old fittings and packaging removed. No mess left behind.

    Quality Parts

Genuine replacement valves and seals from quality brands — not bargain-bin parts that fail again in a year.

    Workmanship Guarantee

All installations and repairs carry a workmanship guarantee on the work we've carried out.

    Technical Detail

    Inlet Valve Problems

The fill valve refills the cistern after flushing. When it fails (worn diaphragm, blocked filter, stuck float), the cistern either won't refill, refills too slowly, or overfills and trickles into the pan. Replacement valves are inexpensive and quick to fit.

    Flush Valve Problems

The flush valve seals the cistern outlet between flushes. When the rubber seal perishes or the mechanism jams, water leaks slowly into the pan — the classic 'running toilet'. Replacement is a 20-minute job on most cisterns.

    Pan Seal & Soil Connector

The seal between the pan and the soil pipe is a common leak point on older installations. We fit modern pan connectors with multiple lip seals for a fully watertight connection.

    Choosing a New Toilet

Close-coupled WCs are the most common and offer best value. Wall-hung WCs need a concealed frame and are usually fitted during a full bathroom refit. Comfort-height pans (typically 45cm to seat) are increasingly popular for accessibility.

    Smells from Toilets

Drain smells almost always indicate a failed pan-to-soil seal or a dry trap somewhere on the soil stack. We can diagnose and repair without ripping out the toilet in most cases.
