High-pressure mixers behave poorly on gravity-fed hot water; cheap ceramic cartridges fail within a year on high-chlorine mains. Pillar taps have separate hot and cold outlets — traditional bathroom style. Monobloc taps mount through a single hole and are ideal for compact basins. Pull-out spray kitchen taps add flexibility for washing larger items. ### Pressure Compatibility High-pressure mixer taps need a minimum 1.0-1.5 bar to work properly. Gravity-fed hot water systems (cold tank in loft, hot water cylinder) often only deliver 0.2-0.5 bar at upstairs basins. Fit the wrong tap and the cold runs fast while the hot dribbles. We check pressure before recommending. ### Ceramic Disc Cartridges Modern mixer taps use ceramic disc cartridges instead of rubber washers.
