Old galvanised steel tanks corrode, old plastic tanks crack, and lids that don't seal properly let contamination into your drinking water. We replace failed and ageing tanks with modern WRAS-approved plastic tanks fitted with a full byelaw 30 kit — sealed lid, insect screens on overflows and vents, fitted insulation jacket — to keep the water clean and to comply with the Water Supply Regulations. Old open or poorly-sealed tanks let dust, insects and worse into your drinking water supply. Size depends on family size and whether the tank also feeds the hot water cylinder. We'll advise based on usage and loft access. ### Galvanised vs Plastic Galvanised steel tanks were universal until the 1980s but corrode from the inside. Modern WRAS-approved plastic tanks don't corrode, are lighter, and are easier to fit in awkward lofts. ### Byelaw 30 in Detail Requires: a sealed lid that prevents contamination; insect screens on all overflow and warning pipes; a screened breather; an insulating jacket; and clearance around the tank for inspection. ### Ball Valve Choice Silent-fill 'Torbeck' style valves are quieter than traditional brass piston valves and respond faster — no slow trickle as the level approaches full.
