A like-for-like boiler replacement (same fuel, same type, same location) is the most cost-effective heating upgrade most homes can make. A modern A-rated boiler runs 92-94% efficient vs 60-70% for a 15-year-old unit — typically saving £250-400 a year on a 3-bed semi.
An upgrade replacement (changing from heat-only to combi, or relocating the boiler) is a larger job but often a better long-term answer. We'll quote both options honestly so you can choose based on cost, performance and convenience.
Every replacement includes a system flush (or power flush where required), a new magnetic filter, system controls upgrade where compatible, and full commissioning. You receive Gas Safe paperwork, building regulations notification, and manufacturer warranty registration on the day.

Technical Detail
Like-for-Like vs Upgrade
A like-for-like swap (combi for combi, in the same location, same flue) is fastest and cheapest — usually 1 day. Changing type (heat-only to combi) or relocating adds 1-2 days but can improve performance significantly.
Boiler Sizing
Modern boilers should be sized by heat loss calculation, not just 'bigger is better'. An oversized boiler cycles on and off, reducing efficiency and component life. We calculate properly during the survey.
Controls Upgrade
Most replacements include a programmable thermostat upgrade. Smart thermostats (Nest, Hive, Honeywell) are available as an optional upgrade — see our smart thermostat service.
Flue Considerations
Modern condensing boilers produce a visible plume from the flue. We confirm flue location complies with current regulations and reroute where necessary using approved flue extensions.
Warranty Registration
We register your warranty on the day of installation. Annual servicing (by us or any Gas Safe engineer) is required to maintain the extended warranty — see our boiler servicing service.
