Done well, it cuts heating carbon emissions to a fraction of a gas boiler and qualifies for £7,500 grant funding under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Done badly, it's a nightmare — noisy, expensive to run, and unable to keep the house warm in cold weather. The difference is almost entirely in the survey and design: heat loss calculation, radiator sizing, pipework sizing and flow temperature optimisation.
