The good news is that most homes have significant room for improvement, and many of the most effective changes cost little or nothing. Here are 10 proven strategies, ranked roughly from easiest to most impactful. ## 1\. Turn Your Thermostat Down by 1°C Every degree you reduce your thermostat saves approximately 10% on your heating bill. Most people can't tell the difference between 21°C and 20°C, but your gas meter definitely can. This single change could save £80-£120 per year. ## 2\. Use Your Heating Timer Properly Don't leave your heating running all day. Set it to come on 30 minutes before you need it and switch off 30 minutes before you leave or go to bed.
